Lalla Moulati

The Gifted Mothers, a group of women based in the heart of Marrakech, invites you into their private gathering. Here they blow off steam, just like a plate of couscous, as one of the mothers says. Through singing and storytelling, the mothers reflect on womanhood in Moroccan society. Set on a stage of patterned tiles, personal narratives emerge by these mums, who are the co-authors of the movie.

The title Lalla Moulati is a combination of two honorific titles: Lalla, an Amazigh word meaning “lady” or “miss”, and Moulati, its equivalent in Arabic. Both titles are used all over the Maghreb to respectfully address women. The combination of the two expresses an higher form of esteem.
